Drop in Titles / How To

Overview

The program works as follows. You register, receive a password, and post your title for display in Shelf Awareness and Unshelved. We approve your title and put it in an issue as close to your desired date as possible. Once we have approved your listing, you will receive an email that is your invoice.

The cost to post a drop-in title is $150. This is for one appearance in Shelf Awareness and Unshelved. There are no discounts on the drop-in title postings. Even if you are already on a corporate discount or are an advertising agency, the cost is $150. We have kept the price intentionally low so that everyone can afford it and have built this specifically so that the process is automated.

It will look like this:

After it appears in both publications, it will remain on our website as a fully searchable listing for one year. If you want your drop-in title to appear in the daily issues more than once, you may choose this at the end of the drop-in title form. Each daily placement will cost $150, and the appropriate total will appear on the invoice that will be emailed to you after your listing is approved.

How to Post
  1. Login/Register. After reading our posting rules, you must register and receive a password in order to post information about your title. Shelf Awareness subscribers should obtain a password first, then complete registration before posting (some of your information should appear in registration fields). Login/register here.

  2. Fill out the drop-in title form. This is a basic form asking for bibliographic information on the title, a brief description and the desired display date.
Description. The title description box holds 250 characters, which is roughly two sentences. We suggest you type your description first in a Word doc and view how many characters it takes up because if it goes over, it will be automatically truncated. (You can copy and paste this directly from the Word doc into our text box for the description.)

Link. The form also asks for a website link. This is a link to which people can click through to learn more about the title. Most booksellers and librarians are more than happy to go to a publisher's website, where they can easily find out more information about the book. It can also be linked to a wholesaler or to an author's website. Please do not link to Amazon.com or BN.com or any other retailers. It will only miff our customers.

Display Date. You will be asked for the first date to be displayed. PLEASE NOTE: your posting will be displayed as close to your desired date as possible. In case of overflow, we approve by order in which postings were received.
  3. Preview and Post. After you've filled out the form, a sample version of your post will be displayed. You may edit or post this version. Once you post from this page, no more changes may be made and you will be billed $150 per title, per display day. You are finished!

  4. Confirmation. After you post your title, you will immediately get an email from us saying that we've received your posting. When the posting has been approved and scheduled, you will receive your invoice by email. Please pay using this invoice; it is up to you make sure it gets in the hands of the people who pay bills.

Rules

We reserve the right to refuse any posting. Postings deemed not to be in compliance with the following rules will be automatically refused. If we reject your posting, we will send you an email explaining why.
  1. This is intended only for English-language books. We will not accept advertising for products, sidelines, gifts, etc.

  2. You must be a publisher whose titles are available through a wholesaler such as Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Bookazine, BookStream, or Partners. If your books are available only direct or through a program such as Amazon.com’s Associates, we will not post your title. You must be a publisher who has had a catalog last season and who will have a catalog next season. This product is not intended as a "new title" program. This is for drop-in titles only and not as a way of advertising regular titles.

  3. It must have all bibliographic information, including title, ISBN, price and on sale date.

  4. Your account must be in good standing with us. If you have posted titles in the past that have not been paid for, we will not accept any further postings.

  5. We will not provide reporting of click-throughs or any ad statistics for drop-in titles.
If you have any questions about this program, please contact Jenn Risko, Publisher, Shelf Awareness at jenn@shelf-awareness.com, or by phone at 206-274-8144. If you are having technical problems with our drop-in title database, please email us at help@shelf-awareness.com.
