Old Town Books

Old Town Books is hiring a Children’s Bookseller who is passionate about children’s and young teen literature. We are seeking a self-motivated, outgoing, experienced salesperson to help open our new store, Old Town Books Junior. 

Our new Children’s Bookseller will:  

Educate + Inspire:  Educate customers about new children’s book releases and stay informed about notable book news. Booksellers must have a developed interest and understanding of the publishing world and forthcoming titles. They will inspire customers and share their knowledge and enthusiasm. We are in the business of helping parents raise readers!

Sell + Promote: Provide excellent customer service, problem solve, and be proactive in all things sales and marketing. Passionately handsell books to a discerning, well-read customer base. Promote store programming; be well informed about our upcoming events and involved in production. Routinely contribute content to our blog and social media channels. Maintain seasonal book displays and assist with picks for gift guides. 

Clean + Organize: Complete all physical tasks required for running a bookstore: break down and recycle cardboard boxes, take out trash, light cleaning and organizing. Restock inventory, organize office and shipping supplies. Must be self-directed in maintaining store cleanliness, retail displays, and organizing back stock. 

Applicants must have availability on weekday evenings and weekends. This position is for a retail professional who is committed to working peak retail hours. Holiday retail season shifts are mandatory.  

This is not a remote position. Please note that this is a physically demanding job - you must be able to lift 40lbs, climb two flights of stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and use a ladder. 

Competitive applicants will be passionate kid lit readers and have experience in the service or retail industry, ideally with bookselling or publishing industry experience. Teaching and library experience will also be considered a plus.

This part-time position starts at $15/hour with opportunity for growth when we open our new children’s bookstore in summer 2024.
