Compensation:  $50,000 - $52,000 DOE (annual equivalent)

FLSA: Non-Exempt Full Time

 Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Director of Sales and Marketing, the Sales Representative will service Mountaineers Books specialty accounts primarily in the outdoor, parks and public lands markets. This is a highly independent position that requires sales growth in the given categories while often working autonomously. 

 Essential Functions

  • Call on and provide services to regional and national trade accounts. Services include but are not limited to, communicating the release of new books, price changes, production schedule changes, and fast-breaking publicity news.
  • Continually search for and develop new accounts.
  • The Sales Representative will travel regionally and nationally to service accounts.
  • Research for specific books potentially new and/or under-served markets, including catalogers, specialty retailers, and premium or incentive accounts. Propose plans for increasing sales in such markets, follow through with the plan, and evaluate the effort.
  • Attend trade shows, sales presentations, and sales conferences as directed. Maintain trade show schedules.
  • Distribute mailings to existing customers and sales prospects, and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Maintain product information and databases for catalog and wholesale customers, updating them with inventory and price changes.
  • Maintain customer database and key account files.
  • Handle sales samples and desk copy requests.
  • Facilitate product sales for author events with the trade customer, specialty venue, and/or author in advance to make sure inventory is available for all Mountaineers Books events.
  • Aptitude to maintain a budget. 
  • Works closely with customer service and fills in as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: BA Degree
  • Experience:  Two years minimum experience in sales, retail, or customer service. Book publishing or outdoor industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and have excellent technical aptitude to learn our enterprise publishing software. Must be detail oriented, have good oral and written communication skills, be able to prioritize and to direct a wide variety of tasks quickly. 

Working Conditions: This role is based in Seattle, WA, at the Mountaineers Books offices on Harbor Island. This is a hybrid position with three days in office required weekly.  One or more dogs are often present in the offices.

Normal office and work-station conditions with ongoing deadlines. Includes travel to publishing-related events and tradeshows, and account visits (including some weekends), with minimum one-month notice.
