Bookseller & Events Manager Assistant

Rizzoli Bookstore is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Bookseller & Events Manager Assistant. This role combines bookselling with event coordination, offering a dynamic opportunity to engage with literature, culture, and the community through our vibrant in-store events program.

Responsibilities:

Bookselling Duties:

  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers with book recommendations and inquiries.
  • Handle sales transactions and operate the register.
  • Process online orders.
  • Maintain store organization, restock shelves, and assist with merchandising.
  • Support inventory management, including receiving and shelving books.

Events Coordination Support:

  • Assist the Events Manager in organizing and executing Rizzoli Bookstore’s literary and cultural events.
  • Create event pages, write promotional copy, and update local event listings.
  • Occasionally supervise and host events (approximately once a week during the spring and fall), managing setup, breakdown, and coordinating book sales with booksellers.
  • Field event requests, ensuring they align with the bookstore’s mission and programming vision.
  • Track event inventory and coordinate deliveries.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a passion for how book events contribute to building community.
  • Prior bookselling, event coordination, or retail experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to multitask.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent in-person customer interactions.
  • Passion for books, literature, and cultural programming.
  • Ability to lift boxes, shelve books, and stand for extended periods.
  • Evening and weekend availability required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position involves manual labor, including shelving books, lifting boxes, and standing for extended periods.

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, reporting to the Events Manager. Benefits include health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, and company holidays. Pay: $18.00 per hour.
