  • Act as key liaison at Grove for the indie bookselling community, both in terms of general outreach and specific IndieNext and other campaigns, working in tandem with Marketing and Editorial
  • Represent the sales perspective in internal Grove conversations, coordinating with Editorial, Art, and Production to meet Sales deadlines for galleys, covers, etc., overseeing metadata management, and advising editors on how to optimize written copy for maximum sales potential
  • Organize Grove’s presence at Winter Institute and other national and regional bookseller conferences, attend regional bookseller fairs, and organize author and galley presence
  • Organize weekly meetings with account managers and sales reps at PGW/Ingram to look at sales projections and shipments to ensure full distribution well before publication date and calibrate initial printings with Production
  • Manage regular reprint meetings with Deputy Publisher, identifying additional printing requirements in advance of need and making appropriate printing decisions together with Production
  • Manage and coordinate sales launch meetings and sales conferences, usually virtually or in NYC – occasionally in person in Berkeley, California
  • Oversee excess inventory and remainders, and occasional direct selling for institutional or other events

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the trade sales channels and broad knowledge of the independent bookstore sector in particular
  • Enthusiasm for the wide range of titles Grove publishes including thrillers, literary fiction, non-fiction, memoir, and works in translation, and knowledge of the Grove backlist
  • A self-starter who is keen for responsibility and excited to have a big impact at an independent house
  • Two days/week working from Grove’s New York City office required

Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in sales or operations, preferably in book publishing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Excel a plus
  • Ability to strategize and drive results in a demanding, fast-paced environment
