Social Media Manager

Position: Full-Time, Remote

Bookshop.org is seeking a passionate and creative Social Media Manager to be the social voice of our mission-driven brand. In this role, you'll champion independent bookstores and connect readers with their next great read through compelling social storytelling and engagement. As we continue to grow our platform and impact, you'll have the opportunity to shape our social media strategy and build meaningful relationships with our engaged community of book lovers, authors, and independent booksellers. There is significant growth potential in the role as Bookshop.org grows. 

The ideal candidate lives at the intersection of literary culture and internet culture, bringing both a deep love for books and an experienced understanding of what makes content resonate across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Threads. You'll create content that sparks bookish conversations, showcases independent bookstores, and brings the joy of discovery to our social channels. Working closely with our marketing team, you'll develop campaigns that align with our mission while keeping pace with emerging social trends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Bookshop.org’s social media marketing strategy

  • Manage day-to-day content creation and scheduling for owned social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Bluesky

  • Develop and execute social media strategy and content for promotions, cultural moments, and partnerships (e.g. Black History Month, Anti-Prime Day, Banned Books Week, Gretchen Rubin’s “Read 25 in ‘25”)

  • Engage with readers via comments, replies, and DMs across all channels, in coordination with our Customer Service team

  • Collaborate with marketing team on influencer campaigns and UGC strategy

  • Develop social-only promotions and partnerships to engage followers 

  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance; leverage findings to improve social media strategy

  • Stay up to date on new developments within the social media environment

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in social media marketing, including experience with a consumer facing brand

  • Expertise with software such as SproutSocial, Canva, and all major social media platforms

  • Support forBookshop.org’s mission of supporting independent bookstores

  • Knowledge of landscape and culture around books and bookselling preferred

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to meet ambitious goals in a fast-paced, start-up environment

Work Hours, Salary, and Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401K with company contribution, paid vacation and sick time, and company holidays. The starting salary for this position is between $60-78,000. At this time, Bookshop.org is 100% remote.
