Elliott Bay Book Company is seeking a highly organized, enthusiastic, and experienced individual to lead our events department. This is a full-time, salaried position working closely with our frontlist buyer and events team This position will be responsible for helping to coordinate programming for the Elliott Bay Book Co. reading series.
Elliott Bay Book Company regularly hosts and/or partners with other organizations on over 400 events per year. This event series is one of the most comprehensive in the country with a 40 year history promoting new, local, diverse and internationally and nationally known authors. We partner with non-profit organizations to co-host events and reach communities outside the bookstore and focus on bringing audiences into the bookstore for our in-store author events, which take place almost daily.
A successful candidate for this position will have the skills and experience to:

Produce a series that is reflective of the store and community.

Oversee all event production, with attention to venues, staffing, operations, and promotion

Regularly supervise and introduce events, including large off-site programs with high-profile authors, celebrities, and political figures

Maintain and develop excellent working relationships with publishers, publicists, and authors

Track publishing trends and forthcoming titles

Manage responses to publisher event grids and requests for proposals

Work closely with the marketing staff in the promotion of the event series via social media, email newsletters, communication with the press, and other means

Develop and expand community relationships and partnerships

Cultivate partnerships with venues, publishers, and local organizations

Maintain and expand community relationships

Oversee the coordination of book sales at events sponsored by outside institutions.

Represent the company to the trade and public

Manage a team and collaborate with other managers

Oversee the events team (staff who regularly host our instore readings) and a number of part-time event staffers;

Maintain excellent communications with event staff and other departments in the company.
Salary- 54k-58k depending on experience.

Candidates should possess at least two years of event management experience—ideally with bookstore events, as well as excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a facility with public speaking, and proactively responding to high-pressure, time-sensitive situations. Strong professional communication skills are also a must and, of course, a successful candidate for this position recognizes the importance and uniqueness of independent bookstores and is excited to further develop and expand the event series.
