Field Sales Representative, West (Remote; Preferred Location: CA)

Position: Full-Time, Remote

Arcadia Publishing (Charleston, SC), the nation’s leading publisher of local interest books, is seeking a motivated and experienced publishing sales professional to expand sales and strengthen relationships with independent bookstores and specialty retailers across multiple categories.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Grow frontlist and backlist sales across Arcadia’s imprints, including Arcadia, Arcadia Children’s Books, Applewood, The History Press, Belt Publishing, and Pelican.
  • Expand business with existing accounts, reactivate dormant ones, and proactively acquire new accounts.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual sales calls, leveraging market and account knowledge to recommend product selection and order quantities.
  • Use Salesforce to manage accounts, track sales activity, and enter orders.
  • Maximize backlist sales through inventory reviews and targeted sales strategies.
  • Utilize Edelweiss to create custom Collections and Markups that support sales efforts.
  • Represent Arcadia at trade shows and industry events.
  • Collaborate with publicity, marketing, editorial, sales operations, and outbound sales teams to optimize account support and growth.
  • Serve as a key internal communicator, providing insights that enhance customer awareness across all divisions of Arcadia. 

Requirements

  • 5+ years in book publishing sales or retail bookselling, with a strong understanding of the industry, market trends, and distribution channels.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships, negotiate effectively, and exceed sales goals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple accounts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), Salesforce, and Edelweiss.
  • Seasonal travel for account visits and trade shows.
  • Remote position requiring a dedicated workspace and reliable internet.
