Sales Assistant, Special Markets

Position: Full-Time

W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a Sales Assistant to support the Special Markets sales team, reporting to the Director of Special Markets. This newly created role will assist with the channel’s day-to-day operations and support myriad sales initiatives to help the channel reach sales goals. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, creative thinker and enthusiastic team player, with strong organizational skills and an ability to multi-task in assisting a diverse group of customer types and supporting multiple sales business models.

The Sales Assistant will liaise with all Norton imprints and third-party client publishers, helping to expand the reach of adult and children’s titles into all areas of the non-traditional book marketplace, including specialty retailers, specialty wholesalers, bulk sellers, premium buyers, and subscription box programs, while also assisting with support and outreach to our commissioned gift groups.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day administrative tasks including organizing meetings, helping with presentation prep, and processing invoices.
  • Extract and analyze sales data from multiple sources including internal and external databases.
  • Assist with sales material development and distribution.
  • Help with bi-annual catalog creation.
  • Complete email sales outreach and sample copy mailings.
  • Respond to customer and commissioned gift rep queries and requests.
  • Attend seasonal specialty trade shows and gift shows.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong Excel skills (including v-lookups, pivot tables, text to column, etc.).
  • Proficiency using a variety of office programs and sales platforms, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Edelweiss, with MarketTime is a plus.
  • Ability to travel year-round by car, plane, and train to attend seasonal trade shows.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills—comfortable with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • The ability to work on multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
  • Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City Headquarters.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual compensation for this role is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
