Three Canadian editors have been named finalists for the 2026 Nancy Flight Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction Editing. The award, which was announced in January, is named for the longtime nonfiction editor who is funding the prize from 2026 to 2033, Quill & Quire reported. The finalists are:
katherena vermette for Carry Your Heart: Indigenous Helping Wisdom and the Science of Psychological Flexibility by Louis Busch (Simon & Schuster Canada)
George Galt for My Year in Fairyland: Grief, MAID and a Lifetime of Books by Sarah Ellis (Stonehewer Books)
Rachel Rose for Humanitarienne: A Doctor's Stories from the Conflict Zone by Kirsten Johnson (Douglas & McIntyre)
The C$25,000 (about US$17,560) prize highlights the vital role editors play in shaping a manuscript. Finalists each receive C$2,500 (about US$1,760). The winner will be named at the Writers' Trust Awards in Toronto on November 10.
