The Blushing Page, a romance-focused mobile bookstore, has been making appearances around northern Virginia since its debut in Ashburn, Va., earlier this year, Ashburn magazine reported.
The bookstore, which carries romance and romantasy titles from both traditionally and independently published authors, is built out of a 1999 Subaru Sambar and debuted this summer. Owner Nicole Connelly, a nurse practitioner, has taken the bright-pink bookmobile to coffee shops, bagel shops, wineries, breweries, farmers' markets, and other locations in and near Ashburn.
Connelly, a lifelong reader, was inspired to create a mobile bookstore after encountering one on vacation in Florida. She told Ashburn magazine: "I immediately thought, 'Wow, I would love to have one of those in Northern Virginia.' "
Connelly added that one of her favorite things has been seeing people's reactions when they see the bookstore for the first time. "They'll do a double take…and then make a beeline over to see what's inside. It's so much fun seeing that excitement."
The Blushing Page's next appearance is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at Two Twisted Posts Winery in Purcellville, Va.
